The Center for Advancing Health Services, Policy & Economics Research (CAHSPER) has released new interactive dashboards that allow users to view and compare the payor mix (i.e., the share of reimbursement from private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) Missouri hospitals experienced for emergency department and inpatient services from 2016 to 2024. The payor mix was affected by the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) that included temporary provisions for continuous coverage of Medicaid enrollees, Medicaid expansion, and the COVID-19 PHE unwinding (i.e., the gradual rollback of policies on temporary coverage and regulatory flexibilities). The dashboards visualize the effects of these events on both emergency department and inpatient hospital encounters across Missouri.
